Most parts of the country enjoyed good weather this past weekend. I hope you were one of the many people that had taken advantage of it and were out playing golf or some other leasure activity. I was out of town visiting my parents. My father had just flipped to an all news station and we were all presented with the tradgedy of the space shuttle Columbia.
One could not help but be reminded of the Challenger incident years ago. This station saw to it you were reminded of the media coverage that had taken place at that point in time. Just as then, they continually replayed the event over and over. I couldn't help but wonder if the same news manager was in charge.
Hey! People are dying here! Would you like to see it again, and again, and again. I realize that incidents like this take the media by suprise. Still, I couldn't help but feel that any journalistic integrity was gone after the twenty-first showing with out any real break.
I know that the news business is tough to stay on top of, but this type of journalism is just proving how low they are willing to go. I can't believe the American public found it so entertaining to see this tradgedy to be constantly repeated before their eyes.
If I'm wrong and this is what the majority of people really want to see, God help us all.
